Over the past couple years we've been witnessing the demise of great teams in Brazil during the transfer window. The passionate fans displeasure falls on deaf ears and money is the motive. Well... One of the motives.
I'm sure there are several other reasons factored in such as the age of the player, the players projected output, player chemistry, diminishing value and so forth.
Cruzeiro, who saw important pieces of their team get transferred to international clubs after being back to back Brazilian champions staggered closely to relegation this year, and during their final push for G4 status, failed the bid, and found their way out of a chance to play in Libertadores.
Can we predict the same future for the current champion Corinthians? Time will tell. The current champion has already negotiated/sold their most important pieces and continue to receive bids.
Is this becoming a trend? Are clubs making a statement? Are examples to be had from the most recent champions? If so, to what end?
This spells opportunity for players and a sad cycle for the fans. Watching your team overcome all the obstacles associated with becoming champion at home just to lose its luster and risk Serie B and Libertadores contention.
Thoughts?
